Network Registration and Account Creation Outage 10/17 - 10/19/2017

We wanted you to be aware of an upcoming event that represents a change to our services, and may be an interruption of service to a small number of users.

On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, SCS Computing Facilities will be transitioning DHCP, DNS, and IP Address Management (DDI) services for SCS from existing Facilities-operated servers to CMU Computing Services infrastructure. This change will help to bring SCS networking services in line with the rest of campus. During this time, SCS Computing Facilities will be unable to register new machines, update existing machines, or create user accounts. These requests can still be submitted via the usual channels and will be processed once the transition is complete. Additionally, any costing-related changes submitted during this time will not be processed until Monday, October 23. This change will not directly impact network services, and SCS Computing Facilities will continue to provide support for these services, including new and updated registrations on SCS networks.

Essentially this just means that a few of our services will be delayed during this time. In the interest of not spamming the whole community, we do not intend to send a message to all of SCS about this outage. We will keep people informed via our website, and via the online machine registration tool, and folks that visit our help desk or contact us via email and request the affected services during this time. We wanted you to be aware of the dates and impacted services so you could relay the same information if necessary.
