January 2013 Critical Windows and Adobe patches

On January 8, 2012, Microsoft released critical patches for Windows. Adobe has also released critical patches for Reader, Acrobat, and Flash Player.

* All Windows PCs must be patched. *

To patch your PC:

Click on the update icon on the taskbar. It is a globe or yellow shield with an exclamation point, depending on which version of Windows you're running.

If you do not have such an icon, run Windows Update by going to the site:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

After patching, you must reboot your PC in order for the patches to take effect.

If you manage a Windows print server, see:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms13-001

for information about a critical update.

If you manage a SharePoint Server 2007 or Groove Server 2007, see:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms13-002

for information about a critical update.

If you manage a Microsoft System Center Operations Manager installation, see:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms13-003

for information about an important update.

Adobe Acrobat and Reader patches:

Adobe released patches for versions 9 and 10 of Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat for Windows and Macintosh, and patches for Adobe Reader 9 for Linux.

If you are already using Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat, you can install the updates by opening the application and selecting:

Help > Check for Updates.

Follow the given instructions to download and install updates for your Adobe products.

Alternatively, to install or upgrade any version of Adobe Reader 10 on Windows to the latest version (10.1.5), you can run the installer on MONOLITH at:

PC_Dist\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.1.5\SCS-AdobeReader-All-1015.exe

To install or upgrade any version of Acrobat Pro 10 on Windows to the latest version (10.1.5), you can run the installer on MONOLITH at:

PC_Dist\Adobe\Acrobat Pro\10.1.5\SCS-AdobeAcrobatPro-All-1015.exe

To install the latest version of Adobe Reader 9 or upgrade an existing Adobe 9 installation on Windows to the latest version (9.5.3), you can run the installer on MONOLITH at:

PC_Dist\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.5.3\SCS-AdobeReader-All-953.exe

Adobe Flash Player patches:

To patch Adobe Flash Player, go to:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

and upgrade your version of Flash Player to the latest version.

If you view Flash content in both Internet Explorer and another browser, such as Firefox, you will need to patch Flash Player for both types of browsers. Note: Google Chrome should automatically update itself to use the latest version of Flash.
