Disabling the WebReady Document View service in Outlook Web Access (OWA)

July 30, 2012

On the morning of Tuesday, July 31, 2012, SCS Computing Facilities will disable the WebReady Document View service in Outlook Web Access (OWA). This is in response to Microsoft Security Advisory 2737111 "Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange and FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint Parsing Could Allow Remote Code Execution,", which was released on July 25, 2012. In this advisory, Microsoft recommended that Exchange administrators disable the WebReady Document View service in Outlook Web Access (OWA). We will disable this service for SCS Exchange OWA on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, between 6AM and 8AM.

Once Microsoft releases an update, we will install the update and re-enable this service. In the interim, you can still download and view attachments using an email client like Outlook or Thunderbird.

Please contact help@cs.cmu.edu or call the SCS Help Desk (x8-4231) if you have questions about this change.

Thank you for your attention,

SCS Help Desk
