LINUX.GP Upgrade Scheduled 1/8/2013

Dec 10, 2012

On Tuesday, January 8, 2013 SCS Computing Facilities will upgrade the operating system software on the Linux general purpose machines (linux.gp.cs.cmu.edu). This set of machines is currently running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS which will stop receiving updates and reach "end of life" in April 2013.

We will upgrade linux.gp.cs.cmu.edu to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. During the upgrade, you may experience brief service outages and system reboots of linux.gp.cs.cmu.edu. In order to reduce the overall outage time, you may be randomly assigned to an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS or Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating system when accessing linux.gp.cs.cmu.edu during the upgrade.

Please contact help@cs.cmu.edu or call the SCS Help Desk (x8-4231) if you have any questions.

Thank you for your attention,

SCS Help Desk
