LINUX.GP Service Upgrade
April 19, 2012
On May 23, 2012 SCS Facilities will upgrade the Linux general purpose machines' (linux.gp.cs.cmu.edu) operating system from Fedora 10 to Ubuntu 10.04. In addition to the operating system upgrade, we will also be introducing new server hardware in support of the LINUX.GP service at that time.
In preparation for this change, SCS Facilities has set up a test environment at LINUX-BETA.GP.CS.CMU.EDU. We would encourage you to login to these machines and try the new system. If you have any feedback about this new environment for the LINUX.GP service please send that along to help@cs.cmu.edu. Please note that this beta test environment is not running on the new hardware and is only intended to provide a test and not a production environment.
If you do not have an account on the LINUX.GP machines, you can request one by sending email to help@cs.cmu.edu. Anyone with an account on the LINUX.GP machines should be able to login to the LINUX-BETA test machines.
If you encounter any errors please send them along to help@cs.cmu.edu.
Please include the exact command that you ran and any output messages.
Thank you for your attention,
SCS Help Desk
