September 2011 Critical Windows, Office & Adobe patches

On September 13, 2011, Microsoft released patches for critical vulnerabilities in Windows, Microsoft Office, and Office for Macintosh. In addition, Adobe released critical patches for Adobe Reader and Acrobat.

* All Windows PCs must be patched. *

To patch your PC:

Click on the update icon on the taskbar. It is a globe or yellow shield with an exclamation point, depending on which version of Windows you're running.

If you do not have such an icon, run Windows Update by going to the site:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

After patching, you must reboot your PC in order for the patches to take effect.

To patch Microsoft Office for Macintoshes:

If you are using Microsoft Office on a Macintosh, use Microsoft AutoUpdate for Mac, which comes with Office, to check for updates or visit the Macintosh Office download page to get the latest updates:

If you will be manually installing updates, check the "system requirements" section on the download page to make sure that previous required updates have been installed.

Adobe patches

If you are already using Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat, you can install the updates by opening the application and selecting: Help > Check for Updates.

Follow the given instructions to download and install updates for your Adobe products.

Alternatively, to install the latest version of Adobe Reader 9 or upgrade an existing Adobe 9 installation on Windows to the latest version (9.4.6), you can run the installer on MONOLITH at

PC_Dist\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.4.6\SCS-AdobeReader-All-946.exe

To install or upgrade any version of Adobe Reader 10 on Windows to the latest version (10.1.1), you can run the installer on MONOLITH at:

PC_Dist\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.1.1\SCS-AdobeReader-All-1011.exe

To install or upgrade any version of Acrobat Pro 10 on Windows to the latest version (10.1.1), you can run the installer on MONOLITH at:

PC_Dist\Adobe\Acrobat Pro\10.1.1\SCS-AdobeAcrobatPro-All-1011.exe

Adobe will not be releasing patches for Adobe 9 on Unix until November 7, 2011.
