SCS Computing Facilities End of Life for RedHat 7.1

January 11, 2008

This announcement is to inform the SCS user community that SCS Computing Facilities support for RedHat 7.1 will end on January 31, 2008. Beyond that date, systems running RedHat 7.1 will no longer receive SCS Facilities hardware, software or backup support. Support will be limited to that machine's network connection.

If you have a machine running RedHat 7.1 your options are:

  1. Continue to use the machine without support. Using the machine without support means that there will be no backups, data restorations and no hardware or software support.
  2. Upgrade the machine to a newer OS Version. Upgrading is an option only if the hardware will support the newer OS. Please contact the Help Desk if you would like to have your machine evaluated for an upgrade.
  3. Retire the machine. Out right retirement of the machine will result in the removal of all support charges. SCS Computing Facilities Staff can assist you in physically removing the machine as well.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the RedHat 7.1 please contact the SCS Help Desk, x8-4231 or send mail to help+@cs.cmu.edu.

Thank you for your attention,

SCS Help Desk
