Scheduled Power and Computing Outage for SCS
The SCS Computing Facilities Help Desk has received the following Information from Campus FMS:
On Wednesday May 28, 2008 FMS will be shutting off all power to campus buildings south of Forbes Ave. between 1:00 A.M. and 6:00 A.M., this includes Wean Hall, Newell-Simon Hall and Smith Hall. During this outage FMS will be repairing and testing equipment that was added to the campus power grid.
*ALL* SCS Computing Services, including Network and Email, will be unavailable for 10-15 hours, beginning Tuesday May 27, 2008 9 P.M. EST.
START DATE: Tuesday May 27, 2008 9 P.M. EST
END DATE: Wednesday May 28, 2008 NOON EST
The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday May 27, 2008 at 9 P.M. EST
Shutdown begins in the SCS Data Center, starting with project servers and ending with core computing servers and network.
Wednesday May 28, 2008 1 A.M. EST
FMS shuts off all power to Wean Hall
Wednesday May 28, 2008 6 A.M. EST
Power to Wean Hall is restored
Wednesday May 28, 2008 6:10 A.M. EST
Restart of core computing services in SCS begins (Network, Email, AFS, etc.)
Wednesday May 28, 2008 9 A.M. EST
Core SCS computing services are back online
Wednesday May 28, 2008 Noon EST
Project servers in the SCS Data Center are back online
ACTION REQUIRED BY SCS COMPUTER USERS:
On Tuesday May 27, 2008, when you leave work, but not later than 9 P.M. that night, you must power off your computer. The computer UPS battery will not hold power for the duration of the power outage. Computers that are not shut down correctly could experience problems when power is restored.
