Monday May 14, 2007 UPDATE SCS Mail Server Problem
On Thursday (5/10/2007) afternoon, one of the mail storage servers experienced a catastrophic hardware failure in the RAID array, which caused the loss of ~200 mailboxes stored on that server. By 5:00 PM on Friday (5/11/2007) Corvid services had been restored to normal functionality.
During the process of recovering from the failure, the affected mailboxes were restored to a different mailbox server. This process involved reconstructing the mailboxes on the new server, and restoring the users' scripts that control SPAM and vacation processing the database of messages that were seen and unseen, and mailbox subscriptions.
At this time, we believe all user mailboxes should be operating correctly. If you experience any problems with your email, please contact the Help Desk at x8-4231 or help@cs.cmu.edu.
As always, we strive to provide reliable e-mail service to our user community, and apologize for this extended outage.
Thank you for your attention,
SCS Help Desk
