LINUX.GP operating system upgrade

Starting on June 18, 2007 SCS Computing Facilities will begin the operating system upgrade of the five LINUX.GP machines from RedHat Linux 9 (RH9) to FedoraCore5 (FC5). This upgrade will allow the LINUX.GP machines to support new functionality being added to our LDAP services.

The upgrade will be done in a staged manner allowing users time to migrate their work to the new operating system. Specific details and dates of the upgrade plan will be announced in the coming weeks. Facilities plans to upgrade two of the five machines during the first stage. The second stage will follow with two more upgrades during the summer. The final stage machine upgrade will be done near the end of the fall semester.

Please contact the SCS Help Desk at x8-4231 or send mail to help@cs.cmu.edu with any questions or concerns regarding these upgrades.

Thank you for your attention,
