Critical Windows patch & automatic PC reboots
August 10, 2006
Public exploits are now available for a vulnerability in the Windows Server service (MS06-040). This vulnerability affects all Windows hosts in SCS. A large number of SCS hosts have either not yet been patched or have not been rebooted after patches have been downloaded. A reboot is necessary in order for patches to take effect.
*Everyone who has not yet done so should patch and reboot their Windows PCs*
Starting at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 11, all hosts in the SCS Windows domain that have not been previously rebooted as part of the patching process will automatically reboot. PCs that were previously rebooted as part of this month's patch installation process will not be affected.
Please contact help@cs.cmu.edu or call the SCS Help Desk (x8-4231) if you have questions or problems with applying these patches.
Thank you for your attention,
SCS Help Desk
