Lenovo and IBM Battery Recall
Lenovo and IBM have announced that they are recalling certain lithium-ion, rechargeable batteries that were used with various models of its portable lines sold between February 2005 and September 2006. There is a possibility that these batteries can overheat, which could pose a risk of fire.
Although the number of incidents has been small, all faculty, staff, and students in SCS should check their Lenovo and IBM laptops for affected batteries and request replacements. Lenovo and IBM are prepared to dispatch a replacement battery upon the receipt of the replacement order. Customers will be asked to return their old batteries to Lenovo/IBM to ensure proper disposal. A postage-paid envelope will be provided to do so.
To check if your battery is affected, please go to:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=BATT-LENOVO
This link will provide you with all of the information that you need to verify if your battery is affected by this recall and to request a replacement battery if necessary.
Additionally, since these batteries can also be used with ThinkPad T4x Series or ThinkPad R5x Series systems, customers who ordered an extra battery or received a replacement battery for any ThinkPad T4x or ThinkPad R5x Series notebook PC between February 2005 and September 2006 may also have a battery subject to recall.
