Internet Explorer 7 - SCS Facilities' Recommendations
On October 18th, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7. At present this software is only available by way of user-directed download. SCS Computing Facilities has not approved IE7 for release in the SCS environment and will not be distributing it.
We STRONGLY RECOMMMEND that users do not install this application at this time. Along with several compatibility issues identified by Microsoft in the release notes for IE7 at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/ie/releasenotes/default.aspx Administrative Computing and Information Services (ACIS) has announced that Oracle has not certified IE7, thus effectively prohibiting the use of IE7 with most of the university's web-based administrative applications. For more detail on the ACIS announcement go to https://www.as.cmu.edu/~fmp/resources/oracle_browser2.html
SCS Computing Facilities will continue to monitor developments regarding IE7. Until further notice, if at any point you are prompted to install IE7, SCS Computing Facilities advises NOT to accept the installation. Please watch for future updates regarding this release on the SCS Computing Facilities web pages at http:// www.cs.cmu.edu/~help
Please contact the SCS Help Desk at x8-4231 or send mail to help+@cs.cmu.edu with any questions or concerns regarding IE7.
Thank you for your attention,
