Recent SCS Email Delays
On Thursday, March 16, 20006, portions of the SCS user community experienced significant email delivery delays. The CS.CMU.EDU email infrastructure experienced intermittent and varied delays when attempting to receive and deliver email. In some cases email was delayed for several hours. It is important to note that no email was lost during this period, only delivery was delayed. Several factors contributed to this situation including a recent increase in the amount of spam email.
Facilities has taken steps to significantly reduce the likelihood of a similar event occurring in the future. Additional system resources have been added to handle greater numbers of connection requests. We have done and will continue to do additional tuning of the new email infrastructure. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused the community, and appreciate your patience and understanding as Facilities works to refine the performance of the newly deployed Corvid email infrastructure.
