Windows XP SP2 Upgrade Announcement

Subject: Windows XP upgrade to Service Pack 2

At the beginning of April SCS Facilities will start the process of upgrading Windows XP hosts within the SCS Domain to Service Pack 2.

Note: All new SCS facilitized machines deployed since November 2004, have had the upgrade applied during the initial build.

Your scheduled upgrade time will be sent to you in an email notification. This message will include specific details as to what you can expect as well as links to the SCS Help Pages for more information.

This process will require that KFW (Kerberos) and AFS client software be upgraded as well. The upgrade on Windows-only hosts will be an unattended (remote) process which will occur during the early morning hours. Dual-boot hosts will require minimal facilities interaction with the system.

Users that would like to perform this upgrade on their own are encouraged to do so.

Note: KFW & AFS clients MUST be upgraded before the Service Pack 2 installation is initiated.

Details on the process for this as well as notes on the effects of this upgrade can be found at"

If you have any questions or concerns with this upgrade, please contact or contact the SCS Help Desk at x84231.

Thank you for you attention,
