Service Outage: Network Outage November 19th, 2005

The following announcement is made by SCS Computing Facilities:

On Saturday November 19th, a network outage will affect campus wireless network connectivity.

TIME OF EVENT: 5:00 a.m. EST - 6:00 a.m. EST

AREAS AFFECTED: Campus wireless connectivity, Commodity and Research (Abilene/I2/Internet2) Internet connectivity.

SERVICES AFFECTED:

Through this time, the campus wireless network will be unavailable for brief periods. Connectivity to the external Internet (both Commodity and Research) will also be unavailable for brief periods of time. Local wired connectivity will be available throughout this maintenance period.

Through the course of this maintenance, ALL services which depend upon external Internet connectivity (as well as connections and access to off-campus sites and services) will experience interruptions. These services include:

  • Commodity Internet
  • Abilene/I2/Internet2
  • Email (Email will be held, then delivered once maintenance is complete.)
  • VPN connections

TECHNICAL DETAILS:

During this outage, Computing Services will upgrade network equipment software to address recent security advisories.
