Service Change: Retirement of Domain Name Servers (DNS) November 21st, 2005
Service Change: Retirement of Domain Name Servers (DNS) November 21st, 2005
The following announcement is made by SCS Computing Facilities:
On Monday, November 21, 2005 SCS Computing Facilities will be retiring the following two domain name servers:
banana.srv.cs.cmu.edu IP Address 128.2.242.182 peach.srv.cs.cmu.edu IP address 128.2.242.81
Any device that is configured to use these name servers may lose their ability to connect to other machines by the host name. Most SCS networked machines are configured to boot via DHCP and should be using the correct name servers already.
This change could affect some home machines/ home network devices. These machines/networks may be configured to use the name servers that are being removed. Please check your home DSL/cable routers and home machine to determine which name servers they are using.
TIME OF EVENT: Monday, November 21, 2005
AREAS AFFECTED: Any SCS machine or home machine that has the above name servers configured.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
If you are not sure how to verify if your machine will be affected by this service change please see http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~help/networking/dnsinfo.html for instructions on how to verify which DNS servers your machine is using.
