Redhat Linux 5.2 support phaseout

July 6, 2003

SCS Facilities support for the Linux 5.2 platform will be phased out on January 1, 2004. This change is due to several factors:

  • RedHat no longer supports version 5.2, and does not offer security or other patches for this version.
  • Very few RedHat 5.2 systems remain in use and continued Facilities support for this outdated software is no longer practical.

Users who are currently on facilities-supported Linux 5.2 machines should consider upgrading their systems to a more recent version of RedHat in order to continue support. In the coming weeks, all users on RedHat 5.2 will be contacted to determine their best upgrade path. In cases where their current hardware will not allow an upgrade to a supported version of Linux, hardware upgrades will be discussed.
