Install the VPN client for Windows

Before installing

You will need a /remote Kerberos instance and password to use the VPN software. If you do not already have those credentials, you can use the SCS Web-based tool to create or manage Kerberos instances for use with VPN and other remote-access systems.

Procedure

Note: You will need to be administrator , or a member of the Administrators group to complete the installation. The installation kit includes the new profile and certificates. Thus you need not run the certificate upgrade script after installing the client.

Windows-VISTA/XP/2000

  1. Download the VPN client install files:
    • Windows VISTA/XP/2000 VPN client install kit [.exe file, about 12.5 MB, Version 5.0.5.0290]. This file contains the most recent version of the Windows VPN client installation files for Windows 2000/XP/VISTA.
    • README.SCS This file contains SCS-specific installation instructions.
  2. Follow the installation instructions in "README.SCS," which contains basic installation instructions plus information you will need to configure and run the VPN software in our environment.

All 64-bit Windows OSes

Note: There is currently no Cisco VPN client available for 64-bit Windows OSes. If you are connecting to the SCS VPN in order to Remote Desktop to an SCS machine on campus, you can follow the instructions in the link below to tunnel the Remote Desktop traffic over an SSH connection, thereby eliminating the need for connecting to the VPN.
