Monolith server upgrade

On Wednesday, 15 August 2007, 6:00-8:00am, SCS Computing Facilities will upgrade hardware for the server MONOLITH.SRV.CS.CMU.EDU. During this procedure, SCS Windows domain users will be unable to print or to download Windows software.

As part of the upgrade, MONOLITH will receive a new IP address. Most users will notice no changes. However, if you have drives mapped to shared network resources (such as printers) or connect from wireless or remote locations using MONOLITH's IP address, you will need to reconfigure such connections with the fully qualified hostname: MONOLITH.SRV.CS.CMU.EDU.

Accessing shared network resources

To map a Windows drive to a shared resource, go to: My Computer > Map Network Drive

Confirm your settings as follows:

  • For the SCS Windows software share: \\monolith.srv.cs.cmu.edu\PC_DIST

  • For the network printer Slate: \\monolith.srv.cs.cmu.edu\slate

Please contact the SCS Help Desk at x8-4231 or send mail to help@cs.cmu.edu with any questions or concerns regarding this upgrade.
