Copying old email messages to the IMAP server using Evolution

Evolution cannot move local folders to the Imap server. To move a folder and its contents to the Imap server requires two steps. First you will have to create an empty folder with the same name on the Imap server, and then you can highlight and drag the emails to the new folder.
  • To create a new folder on the Imap server just highlight "INBOX" under the Imap server and right click, then select "Create New Folder."
  • A box will appear in which you can type in the name you would like the folder to be called. Make sure that the "Folder Bar" under "View" is clicked so that you can easily see your folders.
  • You can now click and drag emails in local folders to the new folder. Just click on an email to highlight it, and then drag the email to the new folder.
  • Hold down the shift key to highlight several emails at once, or click on Edit and "Select all" to highlight all the emails in a folder at once.
Note: Be careful not to transfer too many emails at one time. More than ~600 emails may cause the client to freeze.
