Configuring Outlook for Windows
Setting Up a New Account
If Outlook has not already been set up to access your IMAP account, you will need to provide Outlook with some configuration settings before using it to read your mail.
1. Select "Manual Configuration"

2. Select "Internet Email"

Configuring Outlook to Access Your Account
To connect to our mail servers, Outlook will need the following configuration information:
User Information
| Your Name: | How you would like your name to appear on mail you send to others |
|---|---|
| E-mail Address: | The email address you want to use when sending mail |
Server Information
| Account Type: | IMAP |
|---|---|
| Incoming Mail Server: | imap.srv.cs.cmu.edu |
| Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): | smtp.srv.cs.cmu.edu |
Logon Information
| User Name: | Your SCS UserID |
|---|---|
| Password: | Your SCS Mail Instance Password |
| Remember Password: | Check this if you would like Outlook to save your password |

Advanced Configuration
We recommend setting several settings in the Internet E-Mail Settings dialog box. You can bring up this dialog box by clicking on the "More Settings..." button:
...and then click on the Advanced tab. We recommend the following settings:
Server Port Numbers
| Incoming server (IMAP): | 143 |
|---|---|
| Connection Type: | TLS |
| Outgoing Server (SMTP): | 587 |
| Connection Type: | TLS |
Server Timeouts
We recommend increasing the server timeout to around five (5) minutes.
Final Configuration
To Finish configuring Outlook:
- Click OK to exit the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box
- Click Next in the Add New Account dialog box
- Outlook will test your settings
- Click Close if there are no problems
- Click Finish to start using Outlook
