Upgrade your Mac to OS X Yosemite
Upgrading your Mac to OS X Yosemite is straightforward and easy. Macs enrolled in JAMF Casper Suite can be upgraded using the Self Service App Store. Apple's Mac App Store can also be used to upgrade your Mac to OS X Yosemite.
Upgrade your Mac using Self Service
The OS X Yosemite upgrade will only be visible to compatible Macs.
To perform an OS X upgrade using the Self Service App Store, please follow these steps:
- Open Self Service App Store from the Applications menu in Finder
- Click Featured
- Click Install under OS X Yosemite
The first part of the installation will begin. When the first part is complete, you will see a pop-up like this:
- Click OK
NOTE: Your computer should automatically restart five minutes after you click OK. You can restart your computer manually without waiting the full five minutes.
- Save your work and go to the Apple menu and click Restart to complete the installation of OS X Yosemite
The second part of the installation process will start. This part of the process could take between 30 minutes and 3 hours, depending on your computer.
Upgrade your Mac using the Mac App Store
You can use the Mac App Store to upgrade your Mac to OS X Yosemite. (If your Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite, you'll be presented with an error message.) To start the upgrade process for a compatible Mac, open the Mac App Store, click OS X Yosemite and click Download.
Alternately, you can start this upgrade by visiting Apple's OS X Yosemite page and clicking Upgrade Now.
