Support Charges
About
SCS Computing Facilities is a 100% recharge center. We charge monthly support fees to recover the costs of providing services. There are two general classes of charges:- User-based account charges
- Machine-based services
Important notice: User and machine charges are not dropped unless you explicitly request that.
User-based account charges cover the following services:
- User account (Windows and UNIX-based login)
- Kerberos (secure authentication)
- Help Desk Support (walk in, phone calls and Email requests)
- Remote Access (via iPass and VPN)
- Printing (Unlimited B&W, color, posters)
- AFS (File storage, home page hosting)
- Technical Procurement
- Ability to Netregister
- Use of general purpose Linux Compute Nodes (linux.gp.cs.cmu.edu)
- Windows Terminal Server
- Operations (7 x 24)

Machine releated charges
Services available for your computer:
- Networking
- Machine Support
- Hardware support and repair
- Software licensing and support
- Backups
- Machine room support
Hosts that are located in the SCS machine room are charged a fee that covers 24x7 monitoring by operations and other costs associated with maintaining the machine room.

- Add or remove support charges (retire machines, remove users from support, and make other adjustments -- CMU access only).
