Here is the note I sent to the faculty and students: Subject: MSR Graduate Women's Scholarship, due Mon, Sep 15 From: "David O'Hallaron" Dear SCS Colleagues: Microsoft Research has announced the 2014-2015 Graduate Women's Scholarship program. The award is for one year, $15K, and a $2K travel allowance. See http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/collaboration/awards/fellows-women.aspx for details. HOW THE PROCESS WILL WORK: SCS is allowed to nominate three (3) students. I am leading the nomination process for SCS. Faculty advisors (not students!) should send me their nomination packets by *NOON, Mon, Sep 15*. A committee of SCS faculty will evaluate the submissions and nominate the three students. WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Women SCS students who are enrolled in their first year of a Ph.D program for academic year 2014-15. Each faculty member may nominate at most one student. HOW FACULTY SHOULD NOMINATE THEIR STUDENTS: Email your nomination packet to me by *NOON, Mon, Sep 15*, with the header "MSR Graduate Women's Scholarship Application". The packet must include the following items in PDF format (late or incomplete packets won't be considered): 1) Student CV 2) Copy of undergrad transcript 3) 500-word student essay that describes their research interest and how this scholarship would enable their success. 4) Advisor nomination letter. If your unit hasn't assigned advisors by the due date, then any interested faculty member can assume the role of temporary advisor and write a nomination letter. Note: Nominated students will need to provide me with one additional letter, from their undergrad advisor or another faculty who is familiar with their work, by NOON, Wed, Oct 1. As always, for info on other fellowship opportunities, see http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~gradfellowships Good luck!
