Dear SCS unit heads and Ph.D. program directors, Google has announced the 2016 Ph.D. fellowship program. CMU can nominate 2 students. George Darakos is running the nomination process. Here is the process: a. Each unit in SCS (CSD, ML, RI, LTI, ISR, HCI, and CompBio) will nominate at most one (1) student. b. An SCS committee (headed by me) will rank order these seven SCS candidates and forward them to Darakos. c. Other departments on campus will also nominate students. d. Darakos's committee will then select two students from CMU. I would like to receive the nomination packet from your unit by noon, *Friday, October 23nd*. According to Google, the packet must include the following documents in PDF format: 1. student CV. 2. Transcript of current and previous academic records (unofficial copies are OK). 3. Research statement/proposal (recommended length 4-5 pages, 8 max) 4. Two or three letters of recommendation (at least one coming from the thesis advisor). 5. An optional introduction letter. See http://research.google.com/university/relations/phd_fellowships.html for more info. Thanks and good luck! --Anupam
