Lecture 10: Evaluation with Environments

In order to obtain a more realistic operational model which does not require explicit substitution operations, we introduce environments into the evaluation judgment. We consider this change and the proof that the revised judgment is equivalent (in the appropriate sense) to the natural semantics presented first. We also discuss how these changes affect the representation of expressions, evaluations, and typing derivations in LF.
