Format Of A Typical Week

Monday Lecture	introduce new programming topic
Tuesday Recitation (M and N)	work on homework (unless already completed and handed in)
Tuesday at 11:59pm	homework due (on previous week's topic)
Wednesday Lecture	first 20 minutes: quiz (on previous week's topic) last 30 minutes: reinforce new programming topic
Thursday Recitation (C, D, K, L)	start new programming assignment
Friday Lecture	enrichment lesson on broader computer science topic

Recitations

In computer lab
Work on weekly programming assignment

Homework: Weekly Programming Assignments

The heart of the course
40% of semester grade
Earn full 10 points if your program runs correctly and without errors
No partial credit (0 if it doesn't run)
Lenient late penalty: -1 for 1 day late, -2 for 2 days late, -4 for 3 days late, no credit for more than 3 days late
I will grant an extension if you tell me in advance that you have a legitimate reason.
No assignments will be "dropped"

Quizzes

first 20 minutes of every Wednesday
35% of semester grade
If you're n minutes late to class, you will have 20-n minutes to take the quiz. If n>20, you get a 0.
lowest quiz dropped
I may let you make up the quiz if you tell me in advance that you have a legitimate reason (e.g. You're sick) that you cannot take it.

Attendance

Mandatory in your assigned lecture and recitation.
Taken on random days, at the beginning of class
5% of semester grade
1 absence excused automatically
I will excuse more if you tell me in advance that you have a legitimate reason (e.g. You're sick). I'll be happy to help you catch up later. (When appropriate, I may permit you to come to a different section.)

Final Exam

20% of semester grade

Collaboration

You are encouraged to work together--to discuss an approach/design before you code, and to help with debugging.
Anything you submit must be your own work, in which you wrote every character.
Do ask others to help you think about how to solve a problem when you're stuck.
Do ask others to help you debug your program when you're stuck.
Never look at another person's program to help you write yours.
Never allow another student to look at your program.
If you turn in another person's work as your own, or if another student turns in your work as their own, university policy dictates that you must receive a negative score for the assignment, and that the university must be notified.
Summary: 1 day late = 1 point off. cheat = negative score.
