======================= A V A I L A B I L I T Y ======================= -= Phone availability =- If you are a full-time member of the Space-Time group, you should be available by phone from 11am to 5pm on workdays. You should answer the phone with at list 80% probability; when you are unable to answer, your should receive voice mail and call back within four hours or before 5pm, whichever is earlier. Clearly, you do not need to answer the phone during classes, meetings, or lunch. If you plan to be unavailable for more than four hours, you should notify Eugene (e.fink@cs.cmu.edu) of your unavailability ahead of time. For example, you should notify him if you have a large number of back-to-back meetings, or if you are sick at home. -= E-mail availability =- You should read and answer all project-related e-mails within 24 hours on workdays. If you receive an e-mail on Friday, you should answer it by the same time on Monday. If you receive an e-mail over the weekend, you should answer it by 5pm on Monday. Some examples are as follows: - If you receive an e-mail on Thursday at 2pm, you should answer it by Friday 2pm. - If you receive an e-mail on Friday at 2pm, you should answer it by Monday 2pm. - If you receive an e-mail on Saturday, you should answer it by Monday 5pm. Note that earlier replies are preferable, and you do not actually have to wait for 24 hours. Also note that these rules are incomplete; for example, they do not cover holidays and out-of-town trips. When they do not apply, please use your judgment and avoid unnecessary delays.
