Wireless Emulator News
August 2009
-
The machine that houses CMUlab has to be moved from Wean Hall to the Gates
building. This will result in 2-3 days of downtime for both CMUlab and the
emulator testbed. The current tentative date is September 14-16. We will
post an update if this changes.
June 2009
-
We are improving the integration of the CMUlab and emulator software. As a
first step, we are moving user directories to the CMUlab NFS server. We are
also consolidating some of the emulator software so many pathnames will have
to change. Please
send mail to emulator-help@cs.cmu.edu if you have problems.
April 2009
-
The wireless emulator is being used by students in a wireless networking course
for their course project. Projects are due May 1, so we expect the wireless
emulator to be very busy until then.
October 2008
-
We have added 5 more nodes to the system so you can run larger experiments.
Please send mail to emulator-help@cs.cmu.edu if you have problems.
September 2008
-
The wireless emulator will be used for an assignment in wireless networking
course at the University of Wisconsin from September 22
until October 14.
-
We have a demo the emulator at MobiCom 2008 in San Francisco on September 16.
We will demonstrate 3 applications: channel aware rate adaptation (Charm),
opportunistic packet forwarding, and an adaptive MAC framework for USRP.
We added USRP software radios to three of the emulator nodes. Please contact us
at emulator-help@cs.cmu.edu if you are intested in using them.

April 2008
-
The course
Hands-on Wireless Networking will be using the emulator
for course assignements and projects, so the system may be
very busy.
-
The switch to Emulab is complete and we are moving accounts. Please check the
documentation for changes in how to set up and run experiments.
March 2008
-
We are switching the wireless network emulator to use the Emulab for management
and resource allocation. To implement this change, the system will be taken
off line on Tuesday, March 11, 5pm EST. The transition should take several days.
February 2008
-
We have added multi-path support on some of the channels in the emulator.
Please check the documentation for details.
October 2007
- We are upgrading the emulator, including
adding new nodes and deploying more flexible channel models. As a result,
there may be service disruptions starting Oct 26. You
may also not get accurate results when you use fading channel models
during the upgrades.
We will post an announcement when the system is stable again, probably by
Nov 1. The emulator is available again.
- We now support emulator experiments that combine the emulator with
access to the Internet. This is currently an on-demand feature,
so please contact
Nancy Steadle (nam @ cs.cmu.edu) if you want to this capability.
September 2007
- The "Hands-on Wireless Networking" course based on the wireless
emulator will be taught at CMU in Spring 2008 -
course web page.
August 2007
March 2007
- The CMU wireless emulator is used for assignments and
projects in an undergraduate course on wireless networks at ETH, Zurich.
See Hands-on Introduction to Wireless Networking for more
details.
- The CMU wireless network emulator is now available for
non-CMU users! Please contact Peter Steenkiste (prs at cs.cmu.edu) to request an account.
September 2006
- The CMU wireless network emulator is available to CMU
researchers.
