In addition to the on-line listing of software, which links to user manuals and other documentation, there is a set of on-line computer exercises that can be useful in getting people up to speed using the software. They're the same exercises used in the computer laboratory sessions of the workshop. They build on each other in the order listed.

These exercises should be some help in becomming familiar with the basics of using the software.

Students can also get GCG access by requesting it on-line after they get the PSC account. GCG is still used in some of the exercises, particularly for retrieving sequences from the databases.

Those who get an account should at least look through the exercise on using Digital Unix since it has some suggestions for setting up their .login file to make accessing the sequence analysis software easier.

Students doing a project on sequence families where they want to align and look at the family may want to download GeneDoc. It comes with a tutorial that will get them started.
