Gay Jeans Day Bboard PostsBTW-the fabulous poster that a couple of you stuck to the fence surrounding Gesling Stadium has either been ripped off or blown off. (C. Ho)
What about individuals who regard homosexuality as a sexual perversion? (W. Toraason)
The problem that I and others I have spoken with have with Gay Jeans Day is that the whole idea is kind of underhanded. It is almost as if we are being forced to support the gay community. (K. Prattipati, SCS Senator)
cmuOUT has flyered for 3 straight (er um continuous) weeks.... We've done everything we could to make as many people aware of this event as possible. (D. Riley)
I don't care what kind of pants you are going to wear, I think Gay Jeans Day is a great idea. Think of all the discussion that has been sparked by this one event!?! (I. Fay, Student Senator)
Well, today is the proverbial "morning after"....let's face it, GJD ultimately worked. ....I proudly did my laundry so I had a pair of jeans to wear. Many did the same. A friend of mine had known, forgot when he work up, and went back to change. ....GJD is a great way for people to think about the choices that one makes in life, as to whether to admit something or not. (D. Chase)
Well, we wanted controversy, and we got it! (T. Lawrence)
There is no way that this will prove anything to anyone, and therefore there isn't a point to this whole thing, as the only results it will show will be false. (J. Daley)
Unless of course, we aren't out to "prove" anything and the "result" we are aiming for is promoting gay, lesbian and bisexual visibility. (D. Riley)
I have to think that jeans were chosen for the purpose of artificially inflating the "results" of Gay Jeans Day. (J. Daley)
We've handed out ribbons for lots of things on this campus. It's never sparked such debate. (L. Franz)
If you don't want to wear jeans, you could always sport a nice pleated skirt. (T. Zimnoch)
...if I forget to wear jeans, everyone is going to think I'm straight! That would really suck. (T. Lawrence)
...on any other day, people wearing jeans would generally be assumed to be straight. (T. Dedolph)
...you can not have such a day without involving religious issues. As the Bible clearly states (many time[s]) that homosexuality is a sin.... (J. Daley)
I'm happy to see Jonathan coming out of the closet and showing us his real reasons for objecting to Gay Jeans Day. (D. Williams)
Not a single verse Jonathan cited mentions homosexuality! Unless he means to imply that Esau was gay.... (D. Riley)
Love *is* the point. Sure, the leather and candlewax have *something* to do with it.... (L. Franz)
We Jewish people note your imposing of your bible on us, and without appreciation. (S. Safier)
Regardless of your position on Gay's, trying to use people's clothing habits to bias a 'show of support' just sux. (W. Uther)
You are missing the point. The goal of Gay Jeans Day is obviously not measurement. The goal is to raise campus awareness and to inspire reflection and debate. (C. Kosak)
Any given person wearing jeans on Wednesday is likely to be doing it for reasons other than Gay Jeans Day. (E. Brandt)
Back at MIT, I did hear stories about fraternities insisting that their members not wear jeans that day. (D. Tunkelang)
I've always taken the point to be something like this: "Everyone wears jeans. Gay folks are just like everyone else. They don't stand out in a crowd or have any other distinguishing characteristics." (H. Gobioff)
We do not plan to monitor Wednesday's jean-wearing population.... However, those who conspicuously eschew jeans---like our friend Mr Uther (and we've had our eye on him for some time now)---are revealing themselves to be juicy candidates ripe for the plucking. (C. Kosak)
It's even made the Tartan take a controversial stance (horrors!) on something. And, as a side benefit, it's making the College Republicans look really silly... (P. Dinda)
I always thought the point of GJD was this: Choosing a sexual orientation is just like choosing what to wear in the morning... (T. McGinnis)
On a more personal note, I was hurt by the lack of support from many of the people I call my friends. They not only "made damn sure" they weren't wearing jeans yesterday, they also made it a point to criticize me and a few of my other friends for being supportive. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but to me it's worse than strangers being rude. (K. McPhee)
