If you unpack using Winzip or another LFN-aware program under Win95, then you must compile under a Win95 DOS box with the `LFN' environment variable set to `y' (this turns LFN support on in all the DJGPP-built programs). If you unpack under plain MS-DOS or with a non-LFN-aware tool, then file names are truncated (you don't get the funny `~[0-9]' thing) and you can compile either under plain MS-DOS or in a Win95 DOS box with `LFN' set to `n'. But you definitely cannot mix the two methods.
