| Corniche |
|

The Corniche is a popular place to walk at
night. It gets pretty crowded though so we went during the
day. Qatar used to be a major pearling center. In fact not
far from this giant pearl pictured above is what we call "The
Pearl Man". He sells all sizes and colors of natural pearls
in the form of necklaces, bracelets and earrings. |
Doha is an
interesting mix of old and new. Here we have pictured some older
dhow ships and newer hotels and high rises. Don't forget to
click below and watch the Corniche movie.

Camels |
|

|
We went on
a camel safari today! We didn't have to go far outside the
city to see these camels grazing on the side of the road. We
were able to get within 10 feet of them! Watch the movie clip
below to see these guys move!

Friend's
Birthday |
|
After the above we thought it
couldn't get any better. Well, it did! We were invited to
a friend's house to celebrate her birthday. Laura works at VCU
and she and her husband Peter own two camels. One of them
(pictured below) is named Hayati (My Life) and the other Benti (My
Girl). Not sure if we are spelling their names right. In
the picture below Hayati had just kissed me on the head so I'm
laughing. Isn't she sweet!

|

After we met the camels, visited
with other guests and ate dinner we were invited to go sit in Laura
and Peter's tent. Inside this tent were nice rugs and cushions
for lounging.
We had a great time! |

New
Dresses |
| I found
this dress at a thrift store before moving here. I loved the
style so much I had it copied three times. Maybe I went a bit
too far but each one has it's own feel. The one below is black
and the one to the right is navy. The tailor that worked on
these is actually a men's tailor. He did a lovely job.
Look at how he placed the flowers and you can't see it but he lined up
the stripes!

Toppings
Everywhere...So Many Choices...What is the Perfect Combination?
We had green peppers, olives, onions, feta cheese, mozzarella cheese,
spinach, tomatoes, white sauce, red sauce, garlic, pineapple and
mushrooms. After each of us created a pizza we put them into the
oven (pictured below is our closest neighbor Darlene taking one tray
to her oven next door) and then went to work on our salad. We
ate salad while the pizzas were cooking. When the pizzas came
out we shared our creations with each other.
After we stuffed ourselves we ended the night
with some coffee and cookies. The coffee came from www.CoffeeForTheWorld.com
(see our home page for a link).
