Justin's Birthday

Our party for Justin this year was a little bit better organized than the last.  Having been here one year makes a big difference.  We had zucchini quiche, spinach quiche, hash browns, fruit salad, cinnamon rolls, juice and coffee.

Skipbo

We invited Sherwin, Arnell and Joseph (pictured from L to R) over for dinner.  After feasting on King Ranch Chicken casserole, mixed vegetables, salad and cheesecake we enjoyed a little competitive Skipbo.

Arnell was the big winner of the night. Some would say beginner's luck...he would disagree and call it skill.

Orientation Day

As the "Orientation Administrator" I've just passed one of the busier times of my year.  This event took place on August 18th and it included all of our returning and new employees to the Qatar Campus.

Frank and Justin

This is our second annual Pita Pizza night.  We included the old and new Teaching Assistants.  We now have a total of 7 TA's and we had 6 of them here that night.  This year Justin and Marjorie hosted the group.

David's Drawings

The picture below is a gift that David and Justin gave to their summer intern, Eman.  Eman likes the Japanese anime style so David drew her and the segway with that in mind.  They framed it and presented it on her last day of her internship.  We also enjoyed cake and a rousing verse of "Happy last day of your summer job to you".

With so many new people joining our team in Qatar we've had to make room for them so I've moved offices.  Before I moved out we took pictures of David's drawings on my dry erase board.  These were always a huge conversation piece when I had visitors.

Exploring New Souqs

These aren't necessarily "new" souqs in town but they are new to us.

We visited three different souq areas on this night:

Thursday & Friday Souq
Plant and Pot Souq
Fruit & Vegetable Souq

These are Sheesha pots.  Sheesha is also called "hubbly bubbly."  It is a flavored tobacco smoked through water.  These are pottery versions but they come in really fancy stainless steel pots (complete with carrying case).
