| This was truly a cultural
experience! We can say we are glad we went but we don't
necessarily feel the urge to go back any time soon. There is
controversy surrounding the camel races, specifically the
jockeys. The jockeys are young, skinny little boys and camels
aren't known for being nice. We've been told that these kids
are not fed properly so they are light weight and that they are
probably stolen or bought from other countries. Don't know if
that is true.
The local newspapers are telling us that
there is a ban on the use of the child jockeys and that they'll be
replaced with remote controlled robotic jockeys next year.
They were supposedly testing the robots on Tuesday the 19th during
our working hours so we couldn't be there.

Waiting for their chance to race

Walking to the starting line

And they're off! Look out...

There are different race
tracks. We think this one was an 8 K race. The camels
and jockeys are followed by the broadcasting van so viewers can see
this at home.

The owners of the camels follow in
their SUV's.

The winner of the first race.
