The party ripped a hole in the fabric of reality and was catapulted into Astral Space. They defeated a Devourer with ranged attacks alone, then returned to the Material Plane using a Rope Trick portal. I consider this a CR9 encounter. The party intimidated a Nightwalkerling into leaving without a fight; party receives half credit for this CR9 encounter. Party likewise avoided Tuknir; no experience for this, but you did escape with your lives, certainly a worthy accomplishment. Party defeated two Mohrgs and four tenth-level undead Paladins over the course of two combats - the equivalent of five CR10 encounters. Something about that seems fishy, but them's the rules. Finally, the party destroyed Vecna the Necromancer, one-quarter of the life force behind the god Vecna himself. There's no defined reward for an encounter of this magnitude, but (counting experience for accomplishing the campaign goal) I think 10000xp per player is appropriate. Party gains a total of 15815xp and is now at ninth level. Arator, having been raised, is now at the midpoint of seventh level; Kabri is at the midpoint of sixth. Tidefell and Celeritas have gained hit dice, too. ^_^ Well played, guys. Thanks for the game. ========= Loot gained: The fish found in the King under the River's belt-of-many-pockets were a particularly vicious kind of fish that went by the name of "death piranhas." They had a poison attack that drained constitution; sadly, they did not have enough constitution themselves to survive the transition to the Astral Plane. The skeletal archer's silver bow turned out to be a +1 holy, mighty +6, composite longbow. Its holy power was activated by speaking the words inscribed on its side. The paladins' longswords were all half-holy, and were activated similarly. The armor and shields were all +1 weapons. Vecna the Necromancer had a ring of deflection +5, a double amulet of undead rebuking, a ring of counterspells (with Heal stored in it), and a circlet of wisdom +6. Etale found his spellbook to contain mostly necromantic magic, but received an excellent offer for it from the Tower of Fangs library. After convincing themselves of Arator Diamondblade's true identity, the clerics conceded that he was the rightful bearer of the Shield of Prator. They did ask for the Sun Blade back, though. ============ Our next campaign is scheduled to begin on Sunday, December 8. Gri^H^H^H James has agreed to run the first session. My D&D archive is at http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dkb1/dnd/. I will keep information on this campaign in the subdirectory "improdnd/", until someone offers a better description.
