Over tha last ten years I've had the opportunity to help develop many robots at Carnegie Mellon.

Boss is able to drive autonomously in urban environments at speeds up to 30mph.  Boss won the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge and was developed by TartanRacing. The communications library we used on the project is now availbale here
H1ghlander drives off-road at speeds up to 35mph.  H1ghlander finished 3rd in the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge and was developed by Red Team Racing.
Sandstorm is also an off-road driving robot capable of driving up to 35mph.  Sandstorm finished 2nd in the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge and went the furthest in the 2004 DARPA Grand Challenge.
Hyperion was developed to study sun-synchronous navigation.  It later explored the Atacama Desert looking for life.
GRACE was built to study human-robot interaction. It attended AAAI in 2001.
Skyworker was a prototype robot built to assemble, inspect and maintain space large faciliities.
NOMAD was built as a prototype space rover.   It explored Antarctica looking for meteorites.
