ISIS: Design and Simulation of a high speed Broadband Router

Shahzad Ali

We designed and simulated a high speed router useful for broadband applications.  The specifications of the router were 2.5 Tbit/s in its highest configuration and 320 Gbit/s in its base configuration.  It was designed to support OC-48 line rates.  The most important and unique aspect of the design was the QoS guarantees that were to be provided by the design.  We decided to use Combined Input Output Queuing as a mechanism for scheduling packets through the backplane so as to provide the QoS guarantees.  We tried to use off the shelf components for the entire design.

Here are some of the documents that are available here.

We also have the simulator code availble online.  The details of the simulator are present, either in the report or as README files with the code.
