The task of Simultaneous Localization and
Mapping(SLAM) is widely acknowledged as a fundamental requirement for a fully
autonomous robot.
In this talk, I will describe the challenges
involved in localization and mapping, and present recent successful approaches.
Topics discussed include map models, Bayesian filtering techniques, and the
trade-offs between various SLAM solutions.
