Locomotion : Elie's Big Picture (I)
Elie Shammas
3305 Newell-Simon
Hall
Refreshments 4:15 pm
Talk 4:30 pm
The overall context of this talk is mechanics of locomotion. Towards this
end, I will explain the formulization of locomotion systems through
mechanics and how to express the equations of motion governing these
systems. First I will present a substantial introduction of differential
geometry. Then I will start introducing some well known mechanics terms
like: symmetry, invariance and reduction. Finally, I will explain how
these terms relate to locomotion systems and how they simplify the
equations of motions. The last part of this talk will be a discussion on
how to use this work in three-dimensional snake locomotion.
