Megan and I few out to Idaho (by way of Denver and Salt Lake City) to visit her sister, and take an overnight trip up to Yellowstone National Park.
Driving from Claire's home in Pocatello, we got an excellent view of the Tetons in the distance and the old magma fields close up.
Once we hit the park, we thought trying the top down on the rented Mustang could be fun, but alas, the lack of rain didn't last very long...
Only a few miles in, we got to see some of the park's bald eagles!
Elk and buffalo abounded!
As did geothermal activity.
Wildlife on the roads is clearly a Yellowstone theme.
Someday I hope to find a thermal spring I can swim in. (If only these weren't quite so hot, illegal to enter, and filled with nasty bacteria...)
Not quite as grand as this one, but a heck of a view nonetheless.
I'm a huge sucker for waterfalls. (Though I prefer the tall and narrow sort to an overdone Niagra-type behemoth.)
Apparently this raven gets fed so much, it doesn't even need to fly.
Hiking around steep trails at 7-8000' altitude is a lot harder than at Pittsburgh's ~700'.
Lower Falls
Upper Falls
Buffalo Jam
More and more waterfalls.
And a lot more geothermal!
Uh, yeah... helpful tip: parents, don't throw your kids onto naescant geysers.
And of course, we had to see Old Faithful.
