Snake Robot Design

Mobile Robot Integration

Mobile Base Support Projects:

Electronics
Pan-Tilt Camera
Alice Pack

In order for the snake robot to be the most useful it needed to be able to be moved around remotely. This leads to creating a mobile base for the snake to ride on top of.

The current base is a remote control car bought from Duratrax. We then retro fitted the frame with a motor instead of an engine giving us more torque and better speed control. Also attached to the frame is a top plate that the snake, onboard computer, and pan and tilt camera sit on. This added wieght required us to increase the size of the suspension springs to give it the support that it needed when going over rough terrain. Beneath the top plate rides the batteries for the entire system and other electronics to run the integrated system.

The onboard computer is protected by a clear polycarbonate box as well as other electronics and gear boxes to protect them from debris that might interfere with their normal operation. This allows the mobile base to encounter terrain that is considered rugged and or hazardous.
