Machines I worked with

A note: I am not religious about my machines. I do have my own memories with them. Some of them are broken and I have to throw them away. I still keep some of them with me. (That may also explain why I am a nerd + geek.)

486-66DX , I gave it to a girl and late I considered that to be a huge mistake. I will never do it again and possibly not to talk to that girl again. I used to play Tied fighter in that machine.

P166 (MARS) : now in my cubicle, change its harddisc twice but still can't throw it away. Like many guys in Hong Kong, I build the whole computer myself, I use it to write the program in my FYP and my first part-time job. (They are all screwed up.) I also put a lot of stickers of Doraemon on the machine so I will not be able to sell it.

"Book Mini-PC" : A 300 MHz PC, the mainboard burns at the end. I "buried" it somewhere.

"eea045" : my good friend in HKUST when I was in graduate school. It was 550MHz Pentium, later my boss is nice enough to upgrade to a 1.7G Pentium. Half of my experiments in my master thesis were done in this machine.

My home's P500 (JUPITER) : My favorite machine all time, the experiment of FSVA (my thesis topic) was first succeed in this machine. I am still using it ro run experiments right now. This is also the first machine I successfully installed Linux. (I am still a pretty poor Linux's users. )

SNOOPY : P500. The desktop I used in Speechworks. This is also the first machine which has a funny name . See below.

GRANDPA : P500. The laptop I used in Speechworks. It helps me to go-through a lot of funny problems. When I was laid off, I really missed it.

iBuddie 4 A928 (Japeda) : P1.6G. My first desknote, sort of a labtop. I can only install Linux that in the bundled CD. I used it to write some journal papers.

LUMPY : P2.8GHz desktop. My current friend in the lab. Many people cannot keep themselves from laughing when they know the name of the machine. It was a temporary NTP server so many other people know it. Alright, you see , this must be some very elaborate plans to make fun of me. This machine's name is not made by me !

GRUMPY : P2.8GHz desktop: My current labtop. A Dell Inspiron 9100. Things you need to know about it is that this labtop can be used as a weapon. (It is very heavy (18Lbs)). Another thing you need to know is that it has NO DOCK STATION. It just look like it has one. Now, about its name, I found that I lost to my fate so I decided that all my machines will have this kind of funny names from now on.

a G4 : First macintosh I used. I used to feel that only designers and artists will carry a Macintosh. In CMU, you probably won't feel in this way. :-)
