ARVIND RAMANATHAN

I am a fifth year graduate student in the Joint Carnegie Mellon-University of Pittsburgh Ph.D. program in Computational Biology. I work with Drs. Christopher J. Langmead (Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon) and Pratul K. Agarwal (Computer Science Division, Oak Ridge National Lab, TN) in understanding the molecular basis of enzyme catalysis.

I completed my B.E. (Computer Science) from R. V. College of Engineering, Bangalore and M. S. (Computer Science) from Stony Brook University, NY. While at Stony Brook, I worked with Drs. I. V. Ramakrishnan (Computer Science) and Swaminathan Subramanyam (Biology Department, Brookhaven National Lab, NY).

My research interests include: protein flexibility and its effects on enzyme catalysis, data-mining in high dimensions and developing parallel systems for data-mining. My thesis is titled: “Internal Motions and Energetics of Enzyme Catalysis”. I plan to defend in May 2010.
