Software Architectures for Socio-Cultural Systems

Project Description

SORASCS (Service ORiented Architectures for Socio-Cultural Systems) is a research project funded by the Office of Naval Research that we are doing in collaboration with the CASOS Center with ISR. The aim is to develop a service oriented architectural integration framework for thin client services in the socio-cultural analysis domain, coexisting with existing thick client systems.

Research focus of ABLE Group

Architectural: What are the appropriate high-level structures for socio-cultural architectures?

Our position: Generic service oriented architectures are just a first step.

Sample Issues:

  • What are the appropriate architectural components and connectors that build upon SOA systems?
  • What is an appropriate architectural style for SOA systems that shows a meaningful amount of detail?
  • How should workflows be defined that allow flexibility in terms of data location and format, and user interaction levels
  • How can workflows be composed easily by non-computing expert scientists and analysts
  • How can properties of workflows, such as traceability of data, security, performance, and construction correctness be represented and analyzed
