Go to http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~ab/HP and complete the survey and download the installer file *.msi 3. After you install the program, a short cut should appear on desktop. Click and open the book. To install a new book, first download a sample book (or profile) from http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~ab/HP/profiles/ Save the .tpl file to your desktop. Open the Adaptive Book, click on the import button, and select the .tpl file to bring this to your AB client 6. Reading the Book and Annotating a. Select the book you'd like to read b. Select the content from the left menu c. To create a markup of what you read, do the following i. Click on new markup icon (first icon from left, second toolbar) ii. This gives markup tools (highlghters, annotations) iii. Select color and drag the mouse over the text you want to highlight iv. Select the "Add Annotation" tool, click on the place you want to place the annotation and enter comments in the dialog box. Be sure to include classification of your comments (Ask David Kaufer for more details) v. When you are done with the markup click on markup "save" button (third one from left on second menu) and save. vi. You will be able to access your markups later d. To switch to another book, files->close Profile from (Adaptive Book application) 6. Known Bugs It is known that application may crash unexpectedly in some instances. Be sure to save "OFTEN" to avoid losing markup work. As soon as you start creating a markup save it and then click on save button often as you add more annotations.
