The easiest way to do this would be to wrap your textview in a celview (this is done automatically if you use ADEW and the arbcon to create your application, but can also be done within the application creating the dataobject and view). The celview has a couple of calls celview_SetKeymap(self,struct celview *celv, struct keymap *km); celview_SetMenulist(self,struct celview *celv, struct menulist *ml); that allow an external object to provide the overriding keymap or menulist. Alternately, if you already have control of the textview's parent, you could take a look at the celview code to see what it does. The view pointer that will be returned when a key is pressed will be to the textview itself, so that if your application has information sitting in this search control window, it will have to be able to map the textview to the right remote window. Then all you need then is a keymap that takes care of all the desired keystrokes. \enddata{text,270280476} \enddata{text822, 0} \begindata{text822, 2372} Return-path: X-Andrew-Authenticated-as: 1447;andrew.cmu.edu;Gary Keim Received: from fallscreek.andrew.cmu.edu via trymail for info-andrew+@andrew.cmu.edu (->+dist+/afs/andrew.cmu.edu/usr0/ak99/dists/info-andrew-nostrip.dl) ID ; Wed, 2 Jan 1991 11:19:12 -0500 (EST) If-Type-Unsupported: send Received: from fallscreek.andrew.cmu.edu via qmail ID ; Wed, 2 Jan 1991 11:18:22 -0500 (EST) Received: from Messages.7.14.N.CUILIB.3.45.SNAP.NOT.LINKED.fallscreek.andrew.cmu.edu.rt.r3 via MS.5.6.fallscreek.andrew.cmu.edu.rt_r3; Wed, 2 Jan 1991 11:18:21 -0500 (EST) Message-ID: <0bUUTBO00VsWQAQXAI@andrew.cmu.edu> Date: Wed, 2 Jan 1991 11:18:21 -0500 (EST) From: Gary Keim X-Andrew-Message-Size: 651+0 Content-Type: X-BE2; 12 To: Info-Andrew Subject: Re: dynamic linking: sunos 4.0.3 + sun4 + PL8= broken In-Reply-To: References: \begindata{text,270286412} \textdsversion{12} \template{messages} \excerptedcaption{Excerpts from misc: 30-Dec-90 dynamic linking: sunos 4.0... I am trying to add a \bold{Delete Window} option to my application's menu list. I want to call the proctable entry for \italic{"frame-delete-window"}. The following \smaller{(simplified)} code is from my \bold{InitializeClass}: First I tried: \smaller{\indent{struct menulist *myview_menulist = menulist_New(); struct keymap *myview_keymap = keymap_New(); }}\smaller{\indent{struct proctable_Entry *proc; proc = proctable_Lookup( "frame-delete-window" ); /* find proctable entry */ if ( proc != NULL ) \{ keymap_BindToKey( myview_keymap, ATK_CTRL_X ATK_CTRL_D, proc, 0 ); menulist_AddToML( myview_menulist, ",Delete Window~12", proc, 0, MASK1 ); \} }} The menu option came up, but selecting it did nothing. Then I tried making my own proctable entry which would be passed the frame. Note the \bold{class_Load("frame")}. \smaller{\indent{\description{proc = proctable_DefineProc( "myview-delete-window", deleteWindow, \bold{class_Load("frame")}, NULL, "delete the current window"); }if ( proc != NULL ) \{ keymap_BindToKey( myview_keymap, ATK_CTRL_X ATK_CTRL_D, proc, 0 ); menulist_AddToML( myview_menulist, ",Delete Window~12", proc, 0, MASK1 ); \} }} Again, the menu option came up, but selecting it did nothing. In fact, the routine \bold{deleteWindow} was not even called! The prototype looked like: \smaller{\indent{static void \bold{deleteWindow}( struct \bold{frame} *fr, long ignore ); }} I also tried inserting a call to \bold{proctable_ForceLoaded(proc)} in both of the above examples. No change... So, I tried passing my own classinfo to the function. Note the \bold{&myview_classinfo}. \indent{\smaller{\description{proc = proctable_DefineProc( "myview-delete-window", deleteWindow, \bold{&myview_classinfo}, NULL, "delete the current window"); }if ( proc != NULL ) \{ keymap_BindToKey( myview_keymap, ATK_CTRL_X ATK_CTRL_D, proc, 0 ); menulist_AddToML( myview_menulist, ",Delete Window~12", proc, 0, MASK1 ); }\} } with the function prototype as: \smaller{\indent{static void deleteWindow( struct \bold{myview} *self, long ignore ); }} This worked. My function was called when selected from the menu. The problem is, there still is no way for me to call \italic{"frame-delete-window"}. I tried "faking" a delete window by destroying the IM, but that just caused core dumps. Is this a bug in proctable or is there something else I should be doing. \smaller{Note: I \underline{don't} want to add this to my whole application via an initfile \bold{addmenu}.} Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We have many users, and about 3-4 different places to keep mail depending on which group the user falls into. But, we have the MAIL environment variable set at all times (or it is supposed to be). So, is there any way to get andrew to use the contents of $MAIL instead of whatever is set in _SITE_NON_ANDREW_MAIL ? o my other question was as to whether _SITE_NON_ANDREW_PRINTDIR would be funkified by mdqs-isms, but I suppose that that worst problem I'd have is that it won't find anything, and I don't think there's anyway for it to find jobs unless you're running on the printer's server. Oh well. Any help on this/these matters is appriciated, and any general Sun4 SunOS4.1 help as well. In your .cshrc you could add a line like: if (`sys` == "sun4_40") then setenv COLORMONITOR YES endif and add this line to your preferences: ?E=COLORMONITOR=YES:ez.ForegroundColor: blue As well, you could use the DISPLAY variable if you are logged in remotely. ?E=DISPLAY=foobar\\:0:ez.ForegroundColor: blue Gary Keim ATK Group \enddata{text,270204944} \enddata{text822, 22718} \begindata{text822, 26019} Return-path: X-Andrew-Authenticated-as: 0;andrew.cmu.edu;Network-Mail Received: from po9.andrew.cmu.edu via trymail for info-andrew+@andrew.cmu.edu (->+dist+/afs/andrew.cmu.edu/usr0/ak99/dists/info-andrew-nostrip.dl) ID ; Fri, 11 Jan 91 16:02:47 -0500 (EST) Received: from po3.andrew.cmu.edu via qmail ID ; Fri, 11 Jan 91 16:01:15 -0500 (EST) Received: from alpha.xerox.com by po3.andrew.cmu.edu (5.54/3.15) id for info-andrew; Fri, 11 Jan 91 16:01:04 EST Received: from osprey.parc.xerox.com ([13.1.101.135]) by alpha.xerox.com with SMTP id <18099>; Fri, 11 Jan 1991 13:00:57 PST Received: by osprey.parc.xerox.com id <3139>; Fri, 11 Jan 1991 12:59:38 PST Received: from Messages.7.14.N.CUILIB.3.45.SNAP.NOT.LINKED.osprey.parc.xerox.com.sun4.40 via MS.5.6.osprey.parc.xerox.com.sun4_40; Fri, 11 Jan 1991 12:59:29 -0800 (PST) Message-Id: Date: Fri, 11 Jan 1991 20:59:29 PST Sender: David Nichols From: David Nichols X-Andrew-Message-Size: 1189+0 Content-Type: X-BE2; 12 If-Type-Unsupported: send To: info-andrew@andrew.cmu.edu Subject: Re: Andrew Under OpenWindows Cc: "Leon M. I don't know all the details for that. You'll also want to fix a bug that appears to be provoked by cmenu. When it specifies the mask for the cursor, it uses a mask with 0 for the bits that should be visible, and 1 for the bits that should be transparent. This works fine on the MIT server, but the xnews server seems to ignore the parameters that tell which bits are which and assume that 1 bits are visible and 0s are transparent. Instead of getting a black arrow with a transparent background, you get a transparent arrow on a white background. Inverting the mask and changing the 1s and 0s in the call fixes this up. Specifically, in cmcreate.c, change \example{\description{cursorMaskPixmap = XCreatePixmapFromBitmapData(display, rootWindow, (char *) cursormask_bits, (int)cursormask_width, (int)cursormask_height, 0, 1, 1);}} to \example{\description{cursorMaskPixmap = XCreatePixmapFromBitmapData(display, rootWindow, (char *) cursormask_bits, (int)cursormask_width, (int)cursormask_height, 1, 0, 1);}} then find cursormask_bits in crsrimg.h and invert all the bits. We'd > be interested in any opinions or data on the pros and cons of this > approach. We use both MIT X and OpenWindows, we are heading to OpenWindows for the same reason that you are. We have had one major problem though with getting Andrew to work properly under OpenWindows. Note: we only have Andrew patched to No 6 due to the SunOS4.1 problems, even though No 9 is out we have updated the src yet. Also, our Andrew was still compiled under MIT X, not OpenWindows. The problem is related to fonts. Basically, the converted fonts don't behave exactly like they do under MIT X, it is something to do with their widths. The problem manifests itself if you run ez on a document, what happens is that you get places in the text where there should be a space, however the individual font characters come out too wide and the space doesn't show. Also if you select a region, the inverted area doesn't match exactly the area you selected, sometimes starting halfway through a character. I have mailed on the andrew mailing list about this before and received no replies from anyone giving either a solution or expressing that they have the same problem. It could be just that I am converting the fonts wrongly, but since I am the only one who has posted on the mailing list saying what I think you have to do to convert them, I don't know. I even ftp'd at one point the converted fonts that someone else had made available, however had exactly the same problem. On another point, I have also had trouble with Andrew fonts when converted to MacX. Basically fdbbdf doesn't put enough of the information expected by some conversion programs, in the bdf file it creates. This results in the conversion program failing for that font, or producing a font that doesn't work properly. Any help with these problems would be appreciated. I believe that I converted the fonts correctly but overlapping occurs. I had a thought that maybe the fonts are the correct size but that the character spacing and line spacing is different. One of them is for MS-Word. You could combine this converter with the EZ/ODIF converter (I suppose it will work). Anyway, we are also working in a new implementation of EZ/ODIF converter. In this moment, the only available converter we have for MS-Word is for release 4.0 on MS-DOS for the FOD-11 Document Application Profile (only text). However, we are working on more versions and more powerful DAPs. Apart from this, if you are interested in, we have ODIF converters for WordPerfect and WordStar (for FOD-26 DAP including graphics). As far as I now, Apple and Bull also have ODIF converters for MS-Word on Mac and MS-Windows. Unfortunately, people began to depend on its behavior for use in AMDS distribution lists. I'd rather rip out that special-case hack, myself. It causes lots of confusion for folks such as yourself and for folks who use a comma after some addresses (in a dist list) but not all. There's nothing syntactically wrong with an RFC 822 address built of spaces and words, as long as there are no ``special'' characters in the string like ``@:;,<>''. I didn't mean to be disparaging about general docs for andrew. I did, however, spend some time looking for a beast like it a while ago, and this coloured my comment. (As pointed out to me by Bill Cattey, my own documentation isn't the best in the world :-) But to better things.... I finally managed to ship across the latest ATK PL009 and it all compiled first time, from scratch, without any errors on a Sun4, running SunOS 4.1. Everything I have tested so far has worked perfectly, except for console, which core dumped on me after a short while. When I feel more energetic, I'll look into why. Thanks. Nick Williams. Move the mouse cursor into the panel labeled "Overviews." 3. Click on any document. 4. Move the cursor quickly into the main document window, then into the scrollbar. 5. Wait for the cursor to change into a double-headed arrow (sometimes it doesn't). 6. Move the cursor back into the selection list. Notice how the cursor is \bold{still }a double-headed arrow. We are now seeing the same thing on our rs6000s running AIX3.1. ?QUESTION?: have the modifications suggested to me by Todd Inglett been incorporated in any of the patches??? I've enclosed Todd's comments below. Also, I've checked the tscript.c code and I didn't see any rs6000 or hp/ux ifdefs that would indicate that Todd's suggestions have been implemented. Do the Andrew folks recommend the modifications that Todd suggests? Also, what #define flags are used to specify the rs6000 arch. type? I've seen #define IBMR2 in our local config files. I haven't compiled your version of SetWMProperties(), so maybe I'm confused about how the labels will appear. -Gary \enddata{text,270228060} \enddata{text822, 139334} \begindata{text822, 141374} Return-path: X-Andrew-Authenticated-as: 0;andrew.cmu.edu;Network-Mail Received: from po10.andrew.cmu.edu via trymail for info-andrew+@andrew.cmu.edu (->+dist+/afs/andrew.cmu.edu/usr0/ak99/dists/info-andrew-nostrip.dl) ID ; Tue, 29 Jan 91 20:00:21 -0500 (EST) Received: from po3.andrew.cmu.edu via qmail ID ; Tue, 29 Jan 91 19:58:21 -0500 (EST) Received: from alpha.xerox.com by po3.andrew.cmu.edu (5.54/3.15) id for gk5g+; Tue, 29 Jan 91 19:58:07 EST Received: from holmes.parc.xerox.com ([13.1.100.162]) by alpha.xerox.com with SMTP id <20251>; Tue, 29 Jan 1991 16:58:00 PST Received: by holmes.parc.xerox.com id <2480>; Tue, 29 Jan 1991 16:59:00 -0800 Received: from Messages.7.14.N.CUILIB.3.45.SNAP.NOT.LINKED.holmes.parc.xerox.com.sun4.40 via MS.5.6.holmes.parc.xerox.com.sun4_40; Tue, 29 Jan 1991 16:58:52 -0800 (PST) Message-Id: Date: Tue, 29 Jan 1991 16:58:52 PST Sender: Bill Janssen From: Bill Janssen X-Andrew-Message-Size: 497+1 Content-Type: X-BE2; 12 If-Type-Unsupported: send To: Info-Andrew , Gary Keim Subject: Re: easy suggestion for EZ In-Reply-To: References: <8bd3ifm1eVXq8y=kVN@northstar.dartmouth.edu> <0bd=4hwB0KGW46ohNv@holmes.parc.xerox.com> \begindata{text,2430808} \textdsversion{12} \template{messages} \excerptedcaption{Excerpts from ext.andrew: 29-Jan-91 Re: easy suggestion for EZ Gary Keim@andrew.cmu.edu (584+0)} \quotation{I haven't compiled your version of SetWMProperties(), so maybe I'm confused about how the labels will appear. } Something like this: \begindata{raster,3110712} 2 0 65536 65536 0 0 381 94 bits 3110712 381 94 )bba0ja080j80 01j07Yf8 | )eee0ja3421ch 108001j07Yf8 | )7760ja03df61f 3c30Gf1j07Yf8 | )ddc0ja01001e0 c3e08109j07Yf8 | )bba0ja0k8205 j07Yf8 | )eee0ja002j82 05j07Yf8 | )7760ja1e73e08 18208245j07Yf8 | )ddc0ja129c176 75f88185j07Yf8 | )bba0j9010gc1 87084005j07Yf8 | )eee0j90k4009 j07Yf8 | )7760j8ck3011 j07Yf8 | )ddc0j83Le1j07 Yf8 | )bba0j80l01j07 Yf8 | )eee0j80l01j07 Yf8 | )7760j80l01j07 Yf8 | )ddc0jNj07Yf8 | )bba0v07Yf8 | )eee0v07Yf8 | )7760v07Yf8 | )ddc0j10i0880 1020j07Yf8 | )bba0g04h10i48 g1020j07Yf8 | )eee0g0839b071 666240889b162c 44739cd807Yf8 | )7760g0848c893 892220898c9932 c4c6226407Yf8 | )ddc0g10888911 12222108889122 4442224407Yf8 | )bba0g10888911 14262108889e22 4442224407Yf8 | )eee0g209a8931 192a4208889422 4c42224407Yf8 | )77606620ac8b 551232820aa8b2 245552a24507Y f8 | )ddc06640488c 990c23040cc8d1 b826631c4607Y f8 | )bba0g40k04n07 Yf8 | )eee0v07Yf8 | )7760v07Yf8 | )ddc0v07Yf8 | )bba0v07Yf8 | )eee0v07Yf8 | /55/55.5550 | /aa/aa.aaa8 | /55/55.5550 | /aa/aa.aaa8 | /55/55.5550 | a0zzm | 40zzm | a0n02x0880r04 g20i | 43Ge0l04i2001 h80i04l1080l10 i01e014g20i | a2g2008m20g40 03g01j08m80l20 i021024g20i | 42e0a00f21261c 3c7b74263cg4d c50f010f33183c 0998c1e1ecc60f 108001e39be439 b821ecc1e26010 24c1e6e780g | a2712018616922 40818c6960g86 0511021114a440 10a5!22052911 308002044c2244 c0420522269010 45222308h | 42722008213144 8101043120g84 0921022118c480 10c6!24063121 1087f408882288 80440624231020 46242210h | a23a2008!2148 79010421200104 09210421108478 2084!2404!2110 8003c908229080 83c42422104084 24220fh | 42142008232150 05010421200104 11230423108404 20842464042123 1080g2a0822a0 !80!2462108084 2462g80g | a22e2009252262 050904a2240204 1fa50825108404 408424a4242125 1290g2c4824c4 81g!24a2210104 24a2g80g | 424e200a292444 09110524280204 01294829508508 40842d2c442169 54a0g48882888 81g442d2a4201 042d2a01h | a247200c11!38 f0e1063830!04 011190119086f0 80843233842191 98c00787083070 820784323383f2 04!321eh | 4283a0g0120j20 g04i10j80s02i 02g02l | a2g20g0220j20 zn02n | 43Ge0g1c20j20 zn02n | a0zzm | 40zzm | a0zzm | /55/55.5550 | /aa/aa.aaa8 | /55/55.5550 | /aa/aa.aaa8 | /55/55.5550 | b11112zzk | 40g!02/aa/aa*aa a8 | a4444605/55/55*55 50 | 40g!02/aa/aa*aa a8 | b1111205/55/55*55 50 | 40g!02/aa/aa*aa a8 | a444460540zzi | 40g!0280zzi | b111120540zzi | 40g!0287Gc0g80 i08c0zt | a444460544g40 0110i11zu | 40g!0285c14001 1ecc613011060c zs | b111120544e240 023052934823c9 12zs | !44460284e440 02106311882110 a1zs | b1111205447440 04104211084110 a1zs | !444602842840 04104211084110 a1zs | b1111205445c40 08124211108110 a1zs | !444602849c40 08144215208109 12zs | b1111205448e40 10184219c10106 0czs | !444602850740 10h"01zu | b111120544g40 i01g01zu | !44460287Gc0i 01g01zu | b111120540zzi | !44460280zzi | b111120540zzi | !444602/aa/aa*aa a8 | b1111205/55/55*55 50 | !444602/aa/aa*aa a8 | b1111205/55/55*55 50 | !444602/aa/aa*aa a8 | b1111205622224 zzg | \enddata{raster, 3110712} \view{rasterview,3110712,3,0,0} On top is an iconified typescript, current directory /tilde/janssen/projects/andrew/linkbutton. Cc: I am presently telling the AMS programs to verify user names via WP, which I assemble by hand (or at any rate, not manually). Recently, I found this problem when sending mail to a friend (and potential user) in CUI: I enter a To: address of tom.emerson. Upon submission, cui tells me The name 'Tom Emerson ' is ambiguous. It then lists my alternatives: "Tree,,," (others) Tom Emerson (staff) I, knowing Tree, direct CUI to send it to the second alternative. Wups! The name 'Tom Emerson ' is ambiguous. [and on it goes] Now since we don't run AMDS (and I'm not sure TPTB can ever be convinced to do so, unless I can solve problems like this before the Users find out about them), the only way to get out of this situation is to change the To: address to point to Tree on another machine. Now my question is: 1) Would AMDS do the same thing (AAAAUGH!)? 2) How can I solve this, preferably without deleting the other account manually from WP (or changing the nickname)? As a side issue, is it possible to get the WP-ized version of finger? -GAWollman \enddata{text822, 148328} \begindata{text822, 150688} Return-path: X-Andrew-Authenticated-as: 0;andrew.cmu.edu;Network-Mail Received: from po9.andrew.cmu.edu via trymail for info-andrew+@andrew.cmu.edu (->+dist+/afs/andrew.cmu.edu/usr0/ak99/dists/info-andrew-nostrip.dl) ID ; Wed, 30 Jan 91 14:42:58 -0500 (EST) Received: from po2.andrew.cmu.edu via qmail ID ; Wed, 30 Jan 91 14:36:28 -0500 (EST) Received: from ucbvax.Berkeley.EDU by po2.andrew.cmu.edu (5.54/3.15) id for info-andrew; Wed, 30 Jan 91 14:35:44 EST Received: by ucbvax.Berkeley.EDU (5.63/1.42) id AA24267; Wed, 30 Jan 91 11:25:13 -0800 Received: from USENET by ucbvax.Berkeley.EDU with netnews for info-andrew@andrew.cmu.edu (info-andrew@andrew.cmu.edu) (contact usenet@ucbvax.Berkeley.EDU if you have questions) Date: 30 Jan 91 19:02:58 GMT From: auspex!guy@uunet.uu.net (Guy Harris) Organization: Auspex Systems, Santa Clara Subject: Re: -iconic option Message-Id: <5601@auspex.auspex.com> References: , Sender: info-andrew-request@andrew.cmu.edu To: info-andrew@andrew.cmu.edu >> One of the more useful things about it, from my perspective, is that >> it does not expose X overly much. This would mean, for instance, that every view would have the notion of a \typewriter{PrimarySelection} and \typewriter{SecondarySelection}, and have methods to access them, and would notify \bold{im} when they changed. Thus selecting something in \bold{textview} could cause notification of the selection in X, by going through \bold{im} and \bold{xim}, and other applications, both ATK and non-ATK, could access that selection. This would require adding some code and methods to \bold{view}, and to \bold{im}, and to \bold{xim}, but could be done in a backwards-compatible fashion. This would make a number of inter-client concepts (particularly my favorite, shift-select) much easier to implement in ATK. Comments? At which point I get the following errors: doload: Undefined symbol: sys_errlist doload: Errors while processing doindex: NULL entrypoint from environ.do...program terminated! The build stops here and I can't figure out what is wrong. I've checked the 'overhead/class/machdep/dec_mips/...' stuff and find that 'getlist.awk' is asking for the definer of sys_errlist. I've checked my libc_G0.a (I'm on a MIPS system) and there is NO definer of sys_errlist. Any suggestions on where to go from here? Help would be much appreciated. At CMU it is /usr/andrew.\} The Ness documents describe how to control Adew objects with Ness scripts. See especially Section 3.1 of $ANDREW/doc/atk/ness/nessauth.doc. The basic principal is to give names to objects inserted with ADEW and then add to a Ness script an extend end extend block for each object to be extended. The script can add new key stroke sequences, new menu items, or new responses to mouse hits. Various examples are in $ANDREW/lib/ness/demos. Especially bank.d, birth.db, calc.d happybday.d, and xmas.d. A new feature in Ness is that the script can be hidden if you start the application from nessrun. See the description in section 2.3 of nessauth.d. An example of this is nessrun $ANDREW/lib/ness/demos/happybday.n If these various demonstrations don't help or even (shudder) don't work, please let me know and I can work something out. Fred Hansen Example: I've added four objects below with ADEW: a Ness, two buttons, and a text. Empower the Ness (by scrolling it to its end and clicking on "Empower"), then click on the button here for a message in the text area. Click the Clear button to clear the text. \begindata{cel,271680168} \V 2 \begindata{ness,271679904} \origin{01\\31 Jan 1991 at 17:31:14 EST\\wjh: Fred Hansen\\00} \template{default} extend "demobutton" on mouse "any" if mouseaction = mouseleftup then replace(start(base(currentselection(inset("demotext")))), "\bigger{\bigger{\bigger{\bigger{\italic{\underline{Ness!} }}}}}") end if end mouse end extend extend "clearbutton" on mouse "any" if mouseaction = mouseleftup then replace(base(currentselection(inset("demotext"))), "") end if end mouse end extend \enddata{ness,271679904} 0 271679904 0 0 0 0 >OBJ< ness >VIEW< nessview >REF< ness \enddata{cel,271680168} \view{celview,271680168,1,0,0} \begindata{cel,271770060} \V 2 \begindata{value,271774368} >1 \enddata{value,271774368} 10 271774368 1 0 0 0 >OBJ< value >VIEW< buttonV >REF< demobutton \begindata{text,271766664} \textdsversion{12} [long] (28) [string] (andysans) [string]
