I tried changing colors by calling \bold{graphic_SetDefaultColors()} just before creating the \italic{textview}, then restoring them just afterwards, but this had no effect. I have had success with this in the past when creating an entirely new window in the same process with \bold{im_Create()}. Stated another way, what I'm looking for is something like \bold{graphic_SetDefaultColors()} which is a method rather a class procedure (which is what it is now). If you currently don't have a way to print troff, you may be interested in psroff (latest version 3.0 or so), or groff (latest version groff-1.06). Both support a variety of non-postscript printers. Or if you would like to be able to print Postscript (and ATK figures, zips and rasters) but can't get a postscript printer you might be interested in Ghostscript (latest version 2.5.2 or 2.5.3 I believe.) Ghostscript is a Postscript interpretter and renderer which can output to several types of printers. I recently posted the references for the packages mention above, if you like me to resend that to you just let me know. (one called rtf2, and the other a ness script called fromrtf.n in $ANDREWDIR/lib/ness.) Another project here developed a program to take the output from an OCR scanner, and generate ATK datastream. Chances are this wouldn't be applicable for you unless you have the same hardware they had. I don't know if their code is distributable or to what extent the program is "finished." This can probably be accomplushed reasonably easily for textview. Look for textview-insert-character in atk/text. The difficulty comes when subclasses of textview enter the picture. Some may rebind the keys so that their own insert-character function gets called, some may arrange for textviews routine to be called as part of their own but several probably don't. (e.g. the src views ctext, mtext, etc...) Also you will probably want to make your code copy the deleted text to the cut-buffer instead of simply deleting it, since unlike the mac ATK has no undo. Can anyone estimate how much trouble it would be for us to go to the source and make the changes ourselves? If anybody wants to respond to me directly instead of to this group, please send the message to: sue@coling.uni-freiburg.de. Thanks. AFS runs on many unix platforms. Email afs-sales+@transarc.com for more info. They have a nice package they send out. AFS provides the same basic file system on all machines in the AFS system which can include any machine on the Internet. AFS caches file access on the local disk to provide better performance than NFS. OSF DCE is an entire suite of tools to help develop and support distributed computing. AFS is part of DCE. It has been chosen for the DCE distributed file system. Dislaimers: (Do I really need them???) I've just use all of the above. On the fileserver side the basic unit of the filesystem is the volume, which is a container for a directory. Volumes are clipped togeether through dynamic mountpoints. A volume can be moved transparently between fileservers in a cell, a quota can be set, read-only replicants can be made across fileservers, and so forth. > OSF DCE is an entire suite of tools to help develop and support > distributed computing. I don't know about problems unique to the Parallax video card, but otherwise, about the only incompatibility you'll likely encounter in running the X11R5 Andrew binaries (from the CD ROM distribution) under X11R4 is that the font format is different (pcf vs snf). Source from this latest distribution can be compiled and linked against either X11R5 or X11R4 libraries. While in theory you could get by in just building the .snf fonts, this isn't really feasible because Andrew fonts are scattered throughout the build tree. If both the sender and receiver have ATK the mime-ness of the transfer is almost entirely transparent. (One of the exceptions is styles wrapped around views, which the ATK to MIME conversion can't handle.) For non-ATK objects in MIME mail ATK behaves similarly to other mail readers which have been extended to use metamail to read such mail (ie run metamail, and it brings up a window). Finally, can Table produce graphs and/or charts to represent the spreadsheet data? Or can it be used in conjunction with a graphics package to create graphs/charts? Thank you for your time. I'm sorry for the "naivete" of these questions, but I wasn't able to find docs on Table in the Table subdir on emsworth.andrew.cmu.edu and didn't come across too much on Table in the running demo which I logged into. Yes, this is a problem. I believe that the proper fix is to have the enterstrV view override WantInputFocus and , if self is the requestor (i.e. the second argument) , make self->etextview the requestor. Meanwhile, a quick fix would be to replace the call enterstrV_WantInputFocus(self->memberListView,self->memberListView); with view_WantInputFocus((struct view *) self->memberListView->etextview,(struct view *) self->memberListView->etextview); Tom \enddata{text822, 155542} \begindata{text822, 158808} Return-path: X-Andrew-Authenticated-as: 0;andrew.cmu.edu;Network-Mail Received: from andrew.cmu.edu via trymail for info-andrew+@andrew.cmu.edu (->+dist+/afs/andrew.cmu.edu/usr0/ak99/dists/info-andrew-nostrip.dl) ID ; Wed, 23 Dec 1992 11:11:38 -0500 (EST) Received: from po3.andrew.cmu.edu via qmail ID ; Wed, 23 Dec 1992 11:09:56 -0500 (EST) Received: from LOAN1.SP.CS.CMU.EDU by po3.andrew.cmu.edu (5.54/3.15) id for info-andrew+; Wed, 23 Dec 92 11:09:50 EST Received: from BatMail.robin.v2.13.CUILIB.3.45.SNAP.NOT.LINKED.LOAN1.SP.CS.CMU.EDU.sun4.mach via MS.5.6.LOAN1.SP.CS.CMU.EDU.sun4_mach; Wed, 23 Dec 1992 11:09:05 -0500 (EST) Message-Id: Date: Wed, 23 Dec 1992 11:09:05 -0500 (EST) From: Wilfred.Hansen@cs.cmu.edu To: Info-Andrew Subject: Re: Some basic Andrew questions Cc: grasso@cards.com In-Reply-To: References: <9212222146.AA03550@dealer.Cards.COM> > From: grasso@Cards.COM (David Grasso) > Subject: Some basic Andrew questions > > I recently found the Andrew site and have been looking at the demo, etc. > with my main interest in the Table spreadsheet. The table/spreadsheet inset is fully operational in several ways. Any object can appear in a cell. The table prints. And the set of equations is updated as in any other spreadsheet. However, the code does not support automatic generation of graphs and charts. Doing graphs and charts from table is tantalizing close and would take a programmer only a month or so, but the Consortium members have not had this as a priority. There are two ways it could be added: either an outsider can do the code and contribute it, or existing or new members may express it as a priority project, in which case the Consortium staff could undertake the work. Note that the right way to do the dynamic linking stuff for SVR4 is probably to grab the SunOS 4.1[.x] version of the dynamic linking code and proceeding from there (the "dlopen()"/"dlsym()"/etc. interface was actually invented by AT&T, although they never released any implementation until SVR4; Sun just used AT&T's interface for SunOS 4.1[.x]), rather than trying to teach the "do it yourself" code about ELF (the main reason I did the version that used "dlopen()" and company was to *keep* people from trying to teach the do-it-yourself version about ELF). You will probably also want to change the pseudo-tty handling code in "typescript" and "tm" to use SVR4-style pseudo-ttys. \enddata{text822, 161671} \begindata{text822, 164109} Return-path: X-Andrew-Authenticated-as: 0;andrew.cmu.edu;Network-Mail Received: from po3.andrew.cmu.edu via trymail for info-andrew+@andrew.cmu.edu (->+dist+/afs/andrew.cmu.edu/usr0/ak99/dists/info-andrew-nostrip.dl) ID ; Sun, 27 Dec 1992 22:15:27 -0500 (EST) Received: from po5.andrew.cmu.edu via qmail ID ; Sun, 27 Dec 1992 22:10:06 -0500 (EST) Received: from ucbvax.Berkeley.EDU by po5.andrew.cmu.edu (5.54/3.15) id for info-andrew; Sun, 27 Dec 92 22:09:54 EST Received: by ucbvax.Berkeley.EDU (5.63/1.43) id AA11214; Sun, 27 Dec 92 18:53:32 -0800 Received: from USENET by ucbvax.Berkeley.EDU with netnews for info-andrew@andrew.cmu.edu (info-andrew@andrew.cmu.edu) (contact usenet@ucbvax.Berkeley.EDU if you have questions) Date: 23 Dec 92 19:37:15 GMT From: auspex-gw!guy@uunet.uu.net (Guy Harris) Organization: Auspex Systems, Santa Clara Subject: Re: Fwd: Some basic Andrew questions Message-Id: <16063@auspex-gw.auspex.com> References: <9212222146.AA03550@dealer.Cards.COM>, Sender: info-andrew-request@andrew.cmu.edu To: info-andrew@andrew.cmu.edu >Anyway, I was wondering about Table. You can fire it up as a separate program. >Is it a full-functioning spreadsheet, or basic token spreadsheet, to be >used for simple applications? Dunno what a "basic token spreadsheet" is, but, as spreadsheets go, it's not exactly a power user's spreadsheet; it comes across to me as more of a "proof of concept" spreadsheet, demonstrating that you can build an ATK view/dataobject combination, usable as an inset, that offers some, well, basic spreadsheet functionality for simple applications. I suspect it wouldn't be screamingly fast for sufficiently large spreadsheets, given that, as I remember, it parses the expression in a cell every time it's evaluated. >If Table is not to be recommended, is there any spreadsheet software >that you would suggest which would be Public Domain or governmentally >developed?? Beats me whether any government has developed any spreadsheet. There's a freely-available spreadsheet for UNIX called "sc", and the GNU project's Oleo may now be out, although, of course, while Oleo is freely-available, it's definitely *not* public-domain - it's copylefted. Well, the menus seem to have decided that I don't have color hardware since PopupOverlapPct: 80 and PopupItemFont: -adobe-times-medium-i-normal--12-0-75-75-p-0-iso8859-1 both work in preferences (a link .Xdefaults), but PopupForegroundColor: red doesn't. The following two do work, though: help.ForeGroundColor: cyan help.BackGroundColor: gray18 What am I missing? -- ======================================================================8--< \enddata{text822, 168963} \begindata{text822, 171079} Return-path: X-Andrew-Authenticated-as: 5904;andrew.cmu.edu;Robert Andrew Ryan Received: from atk.itc.cmu.edu via trymail for info-andrew+@andrew.cmu.edu (->+dist+/afs/andrew.cmu.edu/usr0/ak99/dists/info-andrew-nostrip.dl) ID ; Thu, 31 Dec 1992 13:12:08 -0500 (EST) If-Type-Unsupported: send Received: from atk.itc.cmu.edu via qmail ID ; Thu, 31 Dec 1992 13:11:05 -0500 (EST) Received: from Messages.8.5.N.CUILIB.3.45.SNAP.NOT.LINKED.atk.itc.cmu.edu.rs.aix31 via MS.5.6.atk.itc.cmu.edu.rs_aix31; Thu, 31 Dec 1992 13:11:05 -0500 (EST) Message-ID: Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1992 13:11:05 -0500 (EST) From: Robert Andrew Ryan X-Andrew-Message-Size: 1223+0 Content-Type: X-BE2; 12 To: Info-Andrew Subject: Re: National characters in texts CC: bb+org.itc.atk.ia-trail@andrew.cmu.edu In-Reply-To: References: <1hsuv5INN4b1@fbi-news.Informatik.Uni-Dortmund.DE> \begindata{text,538692360} \textdsversion{12} \template{messages} Excerpts from internet.other.info-andrew: 30-Dec-92 National characters in texts Rainer Klute@ucbvax.Berk (642) > What annoys me is that typing a national character (i. e. a German > umlaut) in, say, ez crashes the application.
