I'm a Ph.D. student in Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon, and also a fellow in the Program for Interdisciplinary Education Research. My advisor is Ken Koedinger. My research, in math education, investigates how to support students in connecting procedures to the concepts that underlie them. Specifically, my work has explored how a visual representation of fractions may aid students in learning fraction addition. More broadly, this work led to the design pattern Grounded Feedback, a set of guidelines for implementing feedback to help students leverage conceptual knowledge to evaluate their own work.
